Accessibility
Wistlandpound has been designed with total access for all, with trails, toilets, bird hides, gates, parking and the Discover Wistlandpound Centre being fully accessible for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs.
All interpretation facilities around the trails and the Discover Wistlandpound Centre are designed to stimulate the senses giving people of all ages and abilities the chance to enjoy Wistlandpound.
Trails
Discovery Trail
The Discovery Trail is a 2.5km
(1.5 miles) loop and is a fully surfaced path.
This walk will take you along the edges of the lake and through the conifer forest and gives everybody the chance to learn something new about the interesting history and wildlife of Wistlandpound by exploring the sensory displays that are found along the route.
You can even stop by to discover the birds of Wistlandpound at our fully accessible bird hide and take-in the scenery while having a rest on the benches, picnic tables and resting platforms found along the route.
Challenge Trail
The Challenge Trail is a 1.5km (1 mile) trail that joins onto the Discovery Trail.
For those that are feeling more adventurous and active, this route stimulates the body, as well as the mind as you can put yourself to the test on Wistlandpound’s innovative sports equipment.
Both trails are relatively flat and a map of the routes can be downloaded here.
Refreshments
After exploring Wistlandpound, relax in the Discovery Centre where refreshments can be purchased.
Fishing
Trout anglers will have a day to remember at Wistlandpound, a peaceful and quiet fishery which is regularly stocked with rainbow trout. Natural brown trout can also be caught at this picturesque bank-only fishing venue which also has a Wheelyboat available via the Calvert Trust who may be contacted on 01598 763 221.

Please check the ‘What’s On’ section on our site to ensure that your visit fits in with one of Discover Wistlandpound’s many events held all the year round.
Dog Walkers
To ensure that your dog walk is a pleasant one, Wistlandpound has dog bins installed on both trails so there is no excuse at all for leaving unwanted, harmful mess. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and out of the water.
Activity Trail
Visit the Discover Wistlandpound Centre before you set-off around the trails and pick-up one of the activity trail leaflets which will make your trail walk even more interesting. These can also be downloaded from the Season pages on our website.
When you have completed the leaflet, please put it into the post box in the Discover Wistlandpound Centre to be entered into a seasonal prize draw for children of all ages.
Parking
Parking facilities both near the reservoir and the Discover Wistlandpound Centre are available.
Please note that there is a
parking charge in place that
helps support the facilities
enjoyed at Wistlandpound
as well as helping with ongoing wildlife management.
Annual parking permits are also
available for regular users.
